Charles A. Csuri

The artist I chose and really took a liking to is Charles Csuri. He is more of a digital artist, who is known as a pioneer in the computer graphics, and digital fine arts fields. Csuri is recognized by the Museum of Modern Art, and The Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest Group Graphics, as a leading pioneer of computer animation. He is also seen as the father of digital art by Smithsonian. One cool fact about Charles is that he actually could have played professional football. He was named “All-American” for football at Ohio State, but turned down professional offers to further his studies in art.

I really like Csuri’s art for a couple of reasons. The main reason I took a liking to his art is because I couldn't tell exactly what each piece was. I really like how he alters images in a way that by first glance they don’t seem like much, but when you take a second look at them you start to piece together what they actually are. He also leaves his art open for interpretation. What I mean by this is that his art is very vague, so the viewer can almost take their own meaning out of the piece as opposed to the art being cut and dry. In his piece “A Happy Time” we can make out people but we don’t know exactly what they are doing. Some may see it as them dancing, while some may see it as them socializing and enjoying themselves. Either way, it has a different meaning to each person.

As far as the quality of his work goes, I think it is really nice. You can tell that time is taken into making each piece, and that he knows what he is trying to accomplish. I think the part that makes his artwork strong is that there is a definite structure to each single work of art. Even though the artwork is open to interpretation, it still has a good backbone so you actually know what it is. Overall I really like his style of art and think he has an aesthetically pleasing style.
